June 10: A Missed Turn

Read Proverbs 3:5-6

German Silva had an incredible experience. The twenty-six-year-old runner from Mexico was racing in the 1994 New York City Marathon (a 26.2-mile run). During the race, though, he got temporarily lost. With less than a mile to go, Silva got sidetracked and went off the course. He missed the correct turn and took the wrong road.

It seemed that Silva would never get back to the right road, but a police officer waved him back on course. Silva miraculously won the race in a time of two hours, eleven minutes, and twenty-one seconds, beating out his training buddy, Benjamin Paredes, by only two seconds. It was the closest finish in the history of the city's marathon.

Have you ever gotten lost while driving? or sidetracked trying to find someone's house? Or what about in your spiritual marathon with Jesus? Have you ever gotten off that course?

Think About It

Have you ever felt like you made a wrong turn in your spiritual life? What got you offtrack? Proverbs 3:5-6 challenges us to trust God with all our hearts and not to rely on our own understanding. As we allow God to lead our lives, he will clear the road for us to follow. Be sure that you are trusting him for today and your future. Trusting yourself will take you offtrack.

Pray About It

Lord, I have fallen many times and gotten off the course you would have for me. Teach me to walk with you and trust you.

Did you ever notice how easy it is to get lost? I know it is easier for some than others, but it’s not really hard if you don’t know where you are. I was at District Assembly and went to get lunch knowing I had to report as soon as I returned. You guessed it I got lost.

As I drove around trying to find my way, I was getting more and more lost, if you can do that, aren’t you either lost or not (sounds like having eternal life with God). But I know the more turns I took the more confused I became. Finally I ran up on a church with some people working on the grounds. I asked for directions, you know how hard that is for me? They told me which way to go and it was not the way I thought.

I followed their directions and come to find out I was no where near where I thought I was. I missed out on giving my report, which was a first for me.

What do I do when I am losing my way spiritually? How do I even know? Well, God speaks to me to let me know with His small voice, His word and through others. I have found I need other Christians to help me along the way.

That is why I love going to church weekly, love meeting with a small group weekly and reading and praying daily. This helps me know as soon as I am heading the wrong way. And I am so thankful for those people God has put in my life to help me along the way.

Following the directions,
