July 19: Faking It?

Read Isaiah 29:13

Don't you hate it when people at school are nice to your face but talk about you behind your back? It's awful to find out that a friend is two-faced.

Unfortunately, we can be like that with God if we pretend to be a Christian at church or home but live differently at school or among friends. Living "by the rules" but not having a relationship with God makes us fake. (Just like someone who is nice to you while you're around but cuts you down when you leave.)

We can learn to live by the rules easily, can't we? We can work to stay out of trouble and look good while we're around Christian people. If it's just an act, though, it's not an honest relationship with God.

Think About It

Do you really know God, or do you play the "Churchianity" game? God knows the truth about you. Take a moment and talk honestly with God about your life. Tell him about areas where it's hard to live like a Christian, and ask for his strength.

Pray About It

Lord, I really want to be honest with you. I don't want to be like people who worship you with their mouths, yet their heart is far from you.

The Word for you today says, "Joseph said no to the advances of Potiphar's wife, not because he thought he couldn't get away with it, but because he knew he couldn't live with himself if he said yes."

We started our sermon series, Life's Healing Choices, yesterday. It was really an introduction to the series. "The Reality," will be our first sermon. Part of what we looked at yesterday is sin in the world and its effects on us. Many times we have problems and we have done nothing wrong. But many times it is because of our habits, hang ups or addictions.

The truth about these dysfunction behaviors is often we have not took time to look at the reality behind them. Most often it is a result of a sin in our life, we have tried to cover it up, and the enemy sues it to attack us. We know in our heart we have a problem but we don't deal with it causing stress in our life.

What is it in our lives that causes us to not be honest(with our self, God and/or others)? Could it be pride? Could it be that we think that if anyone know the truth they will not like us anymore?

God knows all. He wants us to be honest for our own good. Today would be a good day for a checkup. I know I am getting one. Why not ask God to reveal to you where you are not being obedient to Him? Then respond by being obedient.

Overdue for a checkup,
