Read Luke 11:1-4 (NIV) One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.'"
Prayer is talking to God. When you talk to God in prayer, you can tell him anything. Anything at all. God cares about your needs, fears, problems, and the events that make you happy, sad, or angry. You can pray to God about anything in your life.
When Jesus lived on earth, he took time to pray to his Heavenly Father. He would find a place where he could be alone with God and pray.
You can pray to God anytime, anywhere, about anything. It doesn't matter if it's day or night. It doesn't matter when you pray or where you pray. You don't have to go to church to pray. You can pray in your room, at the park, on the school bus, or when you walk to school.
Think About It
God loves you and wants to spend time alone with you so you can get to know him better. God speaks to you through his word. You speak to God as you tell about your hopes and dreams, fears and problems, concerns and gratitude. That's prayer.
When you get stuck and aren't sure how to pray, you can always turn to the prayer that Jesus taught his friends. It's called "the Lord's Prayer." It is a simple, beautiful prayer. It is short and to the point. Take some time today to think about some of the things you would like to talk to God about when you pray. And don't forget: You can pray to God about anything, anywhere, anytime.
Pray About It
God, thank you for the gift of prayer. Help me to take full advantage of this gift and privilege.

I love to pray. Sometimes it's hard to get started, that's the devil, but after stating I love to talk to my Heavenly Father. God has speaking to me a lot about prayer lately. Prayer in my own life and prayer in The Bridge Worship Center's(TBWC) life. I know this, God sure moves as I gro closer to Him through prayer. How do I do that? Let's get started.
The first thing I like to do for my prayer life is to find a place I call my prayer spot, I wish I has a spot I could use for nothing but prayer but I don't so I use two locations at the present time, my home office and the treadmill. When I sit down for my prayer time the first thing I need is a pad and pencil(the devil is going to try to distract me) to write down the to do list that is going to come to mind. I have found this necessary as the mind will subconsciously try to remember this . So I write it down so I can move on.
The first thing I must always remember is the purpose of prayer is to get closer to God.
I start by asking God to help me to focus on Him and to remove all distractions and to teach me something new or remind me of some area I have forgotten. Then I break out my Bible. As I read the Bible, I use TBWC reading plan, I read the scripture for the day. As I read, I am listening to what God wants to say to me, you can't hurry this. I keep notes (journal)of what I believe God is saying to me. I do this so I want forget.
Then I read a daily devotional, I use The Word for you Today, I pick up at TBWC. I read this material and see what God might have for me. It is awesome how He someway uses this to speak to me right where I am at in life. Try it you'll like it!
I love to sit and enjoy His presence. I feel His Spirit as I reflect on His Word and the message He is sending me.
I pray the longest while walking on the treadmill. I always start by asking God to search me and reveal anything I need to confess and change (let Him change)in my life. After a couple of minutes of that I go to my prayer list. I use the church attendance list one day a week (if you have been to TBWC within the last year, you are on the list). I love reading each person's name off to God and asking Him to meet their needs, I pray for each need I know. I also pray for the 101prayer list that goes out weekly on another day. Some days this takes up the whole time. When it doesn't I pray for people as God brings them to my mind.
I reserve the last 5 minutes to surrender to God. I surrender me, my family, TBWC and any prayers I have prayed. I trust Him!
This took me making some changes in my life to get to where I am today. Have I arrived, NO. But I am on a journey with God and He is taking me places I never dreamed of. Are you willing to change and spend more time with Him, Jesus.
The Word for you Today, for today October 1,2010 says, "The Bible says, 'Examine yourselves.' Only as we examine ourselves before God do we discover where our true battles lie. Then we've a choice. We can be like the man who visited his doctor and found out he'd serious health issues. When the doctor showed him the x-rays and suggested surgery, he asked, 'okay, but how much would you charge just to touch up the x-rays?' Or, you can decide to change."
Ever-changing
